Welcome to downtown port elgin!

The Downtown Port Elgin Business Improvement Area was formed as a collective of all businesses in the area on Goderich Street (Highway 21),  from Catherine to River Streets in beautiful Port Elgin, Ontario


 A Business Improvement Area (BIA),  is an association of commercial property owners and tenants within a defined area who work in partnership with the Municipality to create thriving and safe business areas that attract shoppers, diners, tourists, and new businesses. By working collectively as a BIA, local businesses have the resource capacity (funds and people), to actively enhance the quality of life in their local neighbourhood and the Municipality as a whole.

INDIGENOUS LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We acknowledge that we are meeting on the traditional lands and treaty territory of the 

Saugeen Ojibway Nation which consists of the Chippewas of Saugeen and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. 


We understand this land holds immense significance to the people of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. 


We appreciate those who live and work alongside us today, and who continue the traditions of their ancestors as stewards of the land we are privileged to inhabit. 


We thank them for the contributions they have made in both caring for the land and in shaping this community. We commit to truth and reconciliation: to acknowledging the truth about what happened to Indigenous peoples because of colonization; and to reconciliation 

which begins with each and every one of us.
